Curing & Maceration Process
The Curing Process
In order to remove and eliminate the strong bitterness of the ingredients in your mamajuana it must forgo a curing process. We at The Mamajuana Store have several recommendations as to how the curing process should be conducted.
Mix rum or gin (50%), red wine (40%) and Honey (10%- 3ozfor 750ML, 6oz for 1/2 Gal., 12oz for 1 Gal). Fill bottle to the neck. Soak for a minimum of 5 days followed by disposing the mixture and moving on to the maceration process.
Mix rum or gin with red wine (50/50). Fill bottle to the neck. Soak for a minimum of 5 days followed by disposing the mixture and moving on to the maceration process.
The Maceration Process
The maceration process is very similar to the curing process in the sense that you can fill your bottle up with any of the above mentioned mixtures. We recommend a minimum of 5 days. The longer you let your mixture of choice soak with the ingredients the stronger it will be.
The end result of the maceration process is a rum base concoction/tincture full of vibrant flavors, vitality and medicinal components. This process can be repeated for as long as you desire. There are people who do it for many years and enjoy their mamajuana as it continues to get lighter and smoother while others go over the maceration process 10- 15 times and move on to a fresh bottle.
